The initial lure of the eeepc was that it is a fully functional laptop for under £200. with the HP 2133 linux starting 'around' £250ex and increasing costs of the eeepc these mini-pcs start to loose their appeal for schools compared to full-sized machines. Admittedly still a great geek-toy thoughif it comes in at 350 quid that would be a pretty impressive package.
The thing about the proposed announcements is how close they take these machines to the ULV based machines such as the portege R200 and the baby vaio. They have greater portability, lighter weight and with atom only marginally worse perfomance and in some cases betterperformance wth an optimized OS. Also, what kind of premiums are sony and ibm putting on 32gig SSD offerings for their ultraportables ? In all cases more than the entire cost of the eee 900 with 16gig flash disk...whatever the price turns out to be.
Great value whichever way you look at it.
