We are looking at buying some 17" TFT's to replace some existing 14" CRT's. Any recommendations please?
i'd try and avoid widescreens.... unless your graphics cards are up for doing the right resolutions for them...
they're all good... we always buy the cheapest at the time!

hanns-g ones probably. Although when they do go wrong they want proof of purchase with 'hanns-g' on the invoices.... so just make sure that happens!!
We got 140 of them over summer and had a couple go wrong... but no proof![]()

We bought second hand - we have a whole classroom of 18 second-hand 15" TFT screens that cost us £30 each and have worked fine all year, and the 10 second-hand 17" screens (about £50 each, I think) in our sixth form are fine, too. We used these people (Portsmouth) - we took the school minibus down and picked the equipment up ourselves:
Welcome to Re-Sales.net
These people advertise on Edugeek:
ICT Direct - computer hardware for ict in education - primary, secondary, special needs schools and colleges
If you're near Cambridge, I used to buy a fair bit of stuff off these people:
Computer Resale (Cambridge) Ltd .* An Independently Owned Store
Other similar places exist around the country.

I've been sourcing LG 17" TFT's for a while now... The last batch were L1753S's I believe..
They have a three year RTB and replacement policy although you may not get a great replacement (usually some dead pixels, surface gouge, etc..). That said I've only ever had 2 problem units out of over 60 units.

AG-Neovo E-series for us. I must admit that warranty service is a little slow but I've had very few issues with over 100 monitors in over 3 years.
We have a number of Neovo hard screen TFT's now. We had a few breakages with some regular TFT's a couple of years ago. The Neovo screens have the toughened glass front so are far less easily broken.
We have been buying these through Stone. I believe they sell another make of hardened TFT screen as well.
Useful if 'accidental' damage if common at your place. We did have a break in a short while ago and one of these monitors was grabbed through a window. The security cable stopped it being taken fortunately.
After forensics had been at it, we cleaned it up and put back on the desk with hardly a mark on it and still working perfectly. (Quicker than the window took to replace)

wow.. hardy!
What kinda price were they at?
Last lot we bought were around £130 but I'm pretty sure that will have come down some since we bought them (Which was just before christmas)
The other make with hard fronts that Stone sell are Belina's but the stands are able to swivel 90 degs and dont seem as tough as the Neovo ones.
Incidentally, Stone aren't the only people to sell these, don't want anyone to think I'm advertising for them or anything (sorry Stone):P
The Neovo hard glass range look nice too but can sometimes be a little out of peoples budgets. Edge 10 do some nice looking hard glass screens too for around the £100 - £110 mark for a 17"
And as someone has already mentioned, Hanns-G screens offer good value for money

@Richie: Bloody hell! I knew they were tough - we had a kid punch one and his fist came off worst! The prices do seem to fluctuate - I've paid as little as £117 a monitor IIRC. The picture quality is also very good IMHO.

We just bought 55 17" 4:3 philips ones for £95. Absolute bargain imho.
PM me if you want the supplier details.

I recently ordered 5 "ebuyer extra value" tft monitors for my office, at the grand price of £76 each, should be delivered today so i'll let you know what they are like. Spec wise they look pretty reasonable - they have DVI and vga inputs, and a 3 year warranty.

I usually recommend ViewSonic 17 and 19" TFTs at between £90 and £120 each, excellent quality and guarantee.
