We have a couple of APC Smart-UPS 1400 boxes that the school used as power back up for Win 98 Computers back in the days when we had a remote portacabin housing them. The batteries are now completely dead and won't hold a charge. The Power Chute software is Win NT/ 2000 v5.2. What's the opinion please folks are they worth upgrading or best offloaded!

18th March 2008, 03:15 PM #2 you can buy new batteries for them, Maplins do a pretty good range. They also have 17ah batteries for £20 at the moment (they come in a jump starter type of thing with a compressor, which comes out a less than half the price of buying the battery alone).
But honestly, they have probably had their day, and with that sort of amps, the last thing you need is old electrics if you catch my drift.

Off load them, you'll probably find the batteries are not that cheap to replace. The last Smart-UPS 1400 i changed the batteries on cost about 150ish for the batteries. And 12 months after changing them it decided to go and meltdown on me, causing a horrible stench of burning plstic.
all in my opinion of course.
