    Barcode Scanners on Junior Librarian

One of my heads wanted extra scanners to put into the classrooms and found somewhere that sold the same product for half microlibs price

But it seems that when the old scanner scans a code - it either adds a tilde (~) to the beginning (tested by just scanning codes into wordpad) OR the barcodes actually contain a ~ (unlikely).

The new ones don't add the tilde (~)

These are CipherLab Model 1000s and it seems you can program them by using barcodes (from a word document on the driver CD) to change the configuration,

However, I don't seem to be able to get the tilde character (should be Ascii 7E according to my info) to go into the scanner - instead it outputs the funny symbol that you get in the top left corner of a PC keyboard (like a reversed L on its side)

Now I'm thinking that since Ascii 24 is also outputing a sign and not the standard Ascii #, that the ~ is just misplaced as well.

Without going through all 127 possibilities ( ) have any old guru's got an idea as to which code the ~ could be mapped to?

    regards

    Simon
For the younger gen - Ascii is what we used before Unicode came along

T person I spoke to had heard of the problem (which manifests itself as not allowing circulation - but adding a new book works) and is getting back to me (again )

But he didn't ring back again and thats when I started investigating myself.

    regards
