The laptop was knocked off the teachers desk two days ago, and the screen is now almost completely dark.
Looks like the DVD Drive side took most of the hit - it's slightly mis-aligned - but working.
I've taken it apart but can see nothing broken or cables off. Any ideas??
[I had this before with another of this set of 6 laptops which we sent back to Sony. We declined repair because it was far too expensive [£450] but they'd fixed it anyway! They charged us about £100 for delivery etc but that was very nice!]

It sounds like the backlight isn't working. I had this with a Dell and it turned out that the screen connector wasn't seated correctly.
If the machine was dropped, the backlight may simply be screwed.

Thanks for the quick reply Ric! ...2 minutes - wow!
I read on a forum that you can buy those for about £12 + delivery - but I just took it apart and can see nothing to replace!

Just called a local company. They charge £35 for an assessment plus parts - backlight and inverter - the usual two!
I've asked for a quote for the parts first...

Replace the broken screen
After you position the new LCD, screw it into place in the metal frame.
