    Question File server

Hi we currently have 7 serverís at our school. I am looking to buy a Nas/San server. I have asked netapp for a price. It was far too expensive. This is going to be used for all student and staff home areaís and for roaming profiles.
Any recommendations for a file server?..

    Thanks

    We use one of these
    http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...2949&CatId=657

with 4x 500GB Drives for the storage setup as Raid 10

Works very well with 1000 Pupils Home folders + 110 Staff with Home folders and Roaming profiles.

You want a SAN not a NAS suggest you look at an EMC product, Dell sell these rebadged.

We have one of these: http://www.snapserver.com/Snap/en-US...servers/ss520/

Ours doesn't have the JBOD part, but just the main unit with 4 500GB SATA hard disks. There is then an NTFS drive used via iSCSI with a normal HP DL360 G5. Setting it up took about 20 minutes.

If you shop around, you should be able to pick one up for about £2.5 - £3k.

Not particularly cheap, but you do get what you pay for at this level.
