We have about 30 of the EEE 4g's here and they cause nothing but problems,
The wireless doesnt work if you put a key in your router, they arent very sturdy we've killed 4 of them already.
Have a look at Acer Aspire ones, ive tested a few and the build quality is far superior.
Just received a HP 2133 and loving it so far. Very nippy with XP on it and no tweaks, should be able to get it faster. Nice build quality and a great keyboard.
In terms of build quality & price I think you'll find the HP Mininotes very hard to beat - HP Compaq 2133 Mini-Note VIA C7-M ULV Processor 1024M/120G 8.9" WXGA Linux Mini-Note PC - Ebuyer, £166 ex VAT is stupidly cheap, especially for machines with an aluminium casing!
We've got 4 of the Acer aspire one's here as a trial, and have generally been pretty impressed with them, i'm just getting a quote for another 21 of them so all of our year 6 pupils can have 1 each!
Steve
Do these acer's still have the 3 cell battery?
I've been using the asus 1000h, really impressed with it. Nice big trackpad too.
samsung: didnt like the trackpad on this and the backlight was rubbish
MSI wind: Again didnt like where the buttons for the mouse were, rubbish battery life.
this is ofcourse just my opinion.
Running a few Eeepc 901s here and nothing but praise!![]()
I bought myself a Dell Mini 9, love it so far but i cant decide on a OS. I want Mac OSX on it but that leaves me with about 1gb of storage space! Back to ubuntu for my weekend in Wales
I advise school on UMPC and other hardware.
In my opinion the main options you need to look for in the UMPC's are;
Intel Atom N270 over the Via and celeron m because of battery life and heat generation
6 Cell battery
2.5" HDD instead of solid slate (at the moment due to pricing). when the 32Gb Solid slate option is cost effective then will look at this.
Warranty is also important.
Warranty is a tricky one as al the companies apart from HP have not thought about warranty packages. I have spoken directly with Asus and MSI. It is almost like they didn't want to offer onsite support or better turn around options.
UMPC's i currently promote are;
ASUS EEE 1000h
MSI Wind
Toshiba
Samsung NC10
Acer Aspire
I have contact with suppliers who can get competitive pricing if anyone needs.
