Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone use a 3D printer in a secondary school?
I've been asked to look in to purchasing a 3D Systems Cube X Trio printer.
Anyone who supplies the printer only does so with a 90 day warranty and there isn't an option to purchase any extended support.
So I was hoping to get an idea of what others are using in secondary schools.

@AngryITGuy if you're going to drop that kind of money on one take a look at https://www.lpfrg.com/product/creatr/ they do a 12 month warranty, I've never used one of these but they seem robust enough and well thought out.
The trouble is at the moment is there are literally hundreds of companies doing 3d printers.

Will take a look at those as well as he markerbot ones too.
If I had my way we wouldn't be buying such a device as I personally think at present it's a you for the department and nothing less.
Did a quick calculation for the Trio printer and to allow all students in KS4 one print at maximum size it would cost almost the same as the device in materials.
I just don't get it but need to research the right device so I don't get blamed for picking the wrong one when it doesn't get used.

This link implies quite a bit of ease of use with the MakerBot Mini
MakerBot Replicator Mini Compact 3D Printer
I'll be letting people know whether its marketing hogswash or not

Just did 1st print - a companion cube from thingiverse - 5 sides were fine but bottom layer messed up
I think the "raft" that it lays down got too stuck to the base and it pulled off
THe printer is plug and play but software took 30 mins to install and appeared to hang several times but eventually finished!

Thanks for the update, please keep us posted with how you get on.
How long did that print take?
All being well we should be ordering the MarkerBot Replicator Desktop version on Monday.

We've just ordered the Experimental Makerbot Replicator 2x.
All being well it should be here in a couple of days for me to try out.
