    HP DDS3 Tape

I've inherited an old USB HP tape backup device and a few dozen 12/24GB HP DDS3 tapes.

What other media type can these drives take? Can they take the newer 500GB/1TB tapes?

    You need model number Cxxxx

Drives are backwards compatible usually but not forwards compatible. You're probably better off unless it's a newer drive budgeting for an lto drive to replace it
