how do i install a replacement drive on my raid 1
I have 2 HDD on RAID 1 mirrored and one of them is going to die shortly.
The boss is off sick and though i think i know how to do this i'd rather ask for help than make a pigs ear of it.
Do i just get a replacement drive, install it in the raid or what?

Re: how do i install a replacement drive on my raid 1
Depends on:
1) is it software or hardware raid ?
2) how smart your server/controller is, is it a nice HP server or some generic heath robinson build?
3) how much storage space you have, as the RAID will take time to rebuild, more space = more time. The whole server maybe offline while the RAID rebuilds.

You will need to determine the type of PERC installed and follow the correct procedure from here.

Boot it up and go into the controller bios/utility from there see which drive it is that has failed.
Power down, if needed, install new drive.
Boot up and go back into utility and rebuild array.
