Hiya everyone!
Firstly, Merry Christmas to come to everyone! Hope everyone has a good one!
We currently have a spare server sitting doing nothing around the place, Its only a P3, 886Mhz Server 2000 rack mountable server but it does have plenty of hard drive space as it was used as a file server,
Its a shame to see it just sitting there doing nothing, can anybody suggest anything that we can use it as?
Dont really want to go down the file server route again as we already have a mound of space anyway!
Any suggestions welcome!
Martin

Developmental server?
Use it to play with when you plan to make big system or network changes, so you can get a feel of how to do it in a safe environment?
I'd love that ability here, but - to slightly change a Black Adder III quote: Money is like socks, plenty of it about but we never seem to get any.

Proxy server? Disk-to-disk backup?

Have both of them already, seem to have servers coming out of our ears!
I like the idea of a development server though!

Setup nagios on it and have it monitor all your important devices on your network.

If you don't have a print server, how do you run your networked printers?

They are connected locally via usb or parallell and shared, Not the idealiest of ways but works well for us

If it works then great, but a place to centrally manager printers would be a easier solution.

Yeah yeah definetly agree with you but i would say that around only 10-15% of our printers have a network card in them! pain i know!

Don't use it for Sophos server................it would not handle it.

We already have a sophos server which runs fine (shockingly!) lol, the printer side of things really isnt as bad as you would think it works quite well for us!
