I have £500 to spend on a colour laser. TCO is important, as well as robustness (hence the need for a new printer).

have a look at some of the hp range. just ordered a 3600n for £450 and getting £200 cash back
Where from Everton?
OKI colour lasers are nice and the consumable price is reasonable. Also they don't have those stupid rotating toners so printout is faster too!
We use OKI C5900 but I think there are newer ones out at the moment.

Hp 4700n fast and reliable and I think they come with cash back also.

We've just ordered 2 HP CP3505n's from Ameiva.co.uk for £285 each (other suppliers quoted >£400 each).
Also consider leasing a colour photocopier.

Indeed, ours works a treat from Windows XP, I just can't get any of the sixth former's Vista laptops to connect to it! Have you managed to get a Windows Vista machine working with any of your 2600ns, if so how?

the 2600ns are good, we have a few too, but imo theres better about, ive been quite impressed by some of the £250ish epson colour lasers recently, good quality and the toner seems to have quite a good life span
ones im most pleased with is our leased printers, we have about 7 kyocera printers, though i wouldnt pay for them (there about £700 o_O)
TBH... my experience of printer drivers and new Operating systems is that the printer manufacturers all use the new OS as an excuse to force people to buy new printers. You can expect new drivers in about 6 months to a year that are vista capable for the last years worth of printers but probably not anything older.
Have a look at Kyocera, they will recommend the model that best fits and then the only things that need to be replaced is the toner cartridges. They are fitted with ceramic drums that prolong the longevity of the printer.

Rent a Toshiba Colour Copier, far far easier and much much cheaper to run. Petrol and Diesel is cheaper than HP Colour Toners.
