    Tablet/Laptop for student

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is under the right topic...

I have been asked to find a tablet/laptop for a student to use, this is going to be used at both school and home. I am not worried about it joining the domain as they can upload their work via home access plus using the school wifi.

We would like a keyboard with it so I am What I had in mind was a surface 1 or 2, I know there are alternatives but I don't know much about them.

    Can anyone recommend a device?

    EDIT (Around the £250-£350 range)

    Thank you,
    Adam

Why not get them a full laptop for that price?

Refurb Lenovo T410 i5 laptop for under £300 with win 7 pro.

I'd make locking it down a lot easier!

That would make more sense but they want a tablet!

The thinkpad tablet 2s are really nice! Not that cheap though!

Are they paying for it or is the school?

If it's the school then give them something from your spares cupboard?

The school, not sure where the money is coming from. I imagine it will be from pupil premium.

    Makes sense,

I'd argue the case that it makes your life easier if it's an easy unit to manage. Especially if they're going to expect you to keep it working once it starts getting knocks and bangs at home.

Hi @ataylor, How about an 11.1" VeryPC Windows tablet with docking keyboard and Windows 8.1 OEM my man? I could get one to you for £350 if I sacrificed a few pence of commission easy.

It came with Polaris Office - it works OK and you get around 15 hours of uptime when using the keyboard as it comes with its own battery

Or you could get the W8 version that comes with Office Buy Asus Transformer Book T100TA Convertible Tablet Laptop, Intel Atom, 2GB RAM, 32GB, Windows 8.1 & Microsoft Office 2013, 10.1" Touch Screen online at John Lewis

dunno what the performance is like on those though

Lenovo just announced a convertible laptop for education use that sounds like what you're looking for, but no word on detailed spec or UK pricing/availability yet.
