    HP Laptops

There was a time when, if it was IBM, HP, Compaq you could be sure of the quality but that doesn't always hold true any more, especially with laptops. I'm looking at the HP 6715b here Has anyone any experience of this model or HP laptops in general? Thanks.

    Re: HP Laptops

    The new HP's are Great!

I found like you said, and in this time, toshiba were Very good at making laptops too

Now hp went down hill, and if you had asked a year or 2 ago i would have said "DONT TOUCH THEM!!!!11!!1" but theyve gone up quite alot in quality since then, ive mainly delt with the business ones though.

around the time hp had rubbish laptops, toshiba had lovely ones, which you could kick down the stairs and they would bounce back up... however they seem to have swaped, the new toshibas (minus the l10 which was good) are abit naff, but the hp's are great, and have cashback offers now

Although it is worth noting that for a Mere £4 more

you can get the TL-60 chip instead of the TL-58, which is 2 cores @ 2ghz instead of 1.8ghz

id pay the £4 for that

They are ridiculously cheap and I've heard good things about some of the models in the range. They're not bad looking either.

    But personally, I don't like 15.4 inch laptops. Much prefer the thinkpad's 14.1 widescreen (1440 x 900 or 1280 x 800) and also don't like anything that weighs over 2.5kg inc battery.

We've got 3 of them (the 6715b) - solid machines so far. And we've just ordered another 3. I'd recommend them!

We ordered a bunch of them recently (from Dabs) while the £100 cashback offer was on. All good so far

    Re: HP Laptops

The only issues I have with HP laptops is the support / warranty.

Call centres are all in India.

Our laptops are now being shipped to Poland for repair (is there anyone left there to repair them??)

The time it takes to repair the laptop off site.

If you can afford it, go for on-site warranty, or like we will be doing next time - don't get any extra warranty, use the extra cash to buy a few spare laptops.

We bought extra Acer laptops as you describe after finding out what a complete waste of time their warranties were.

At the moment I'm tending towards HP although we have had a few imaging problems. I have a couple of Lenovo ones on order for a media studies setup, which serves as a toe-in-the-water for testing their quality.

I used the online warranty service and had the laptop picked up the next day and returned 4 days later. Why do you need to phone anyone? And the firm that repaired it was in Bristol.

Yep I log issues online too, but when they refuse to repair something or its goes missing you have to call up to get anything sorted, shouting at a website doesn't give me the same satisfaction :-)

Up until 3 weeks ago all our repairs were done in the UK. Our last 2 laptops though have been shipped over to Poland.
