Over the last few years (4 or 5) we have had a series of laptops brought into the schools from the Laptops for Teachers scheme. I am trying to help with software audit on a couple of schools. They have a few Dell 500 which came in around 2003, a few RM laptops which came in around 2004 and a few Acer laptops that came in in 2005.
All of these have since been re imaged via RIS or Ghost etc. Does anyone know if these came in with Office 2003 already installed and therefore do not need to have a separate licence by the school. I have contacted the LEA but no one seems to know as its so far back na the people who were in charge of distributing the laptops tot he schools have either left or gone on to other jobs in other depts.
I was working in Birmingham and a lot of them came with Star Office and like you I loaded Office 2003. I seem to remember that O2003 was an option with those ones in 2003/4
our LFT's came with office 2003, Nero, Power DVD and a one year Norton AV all installed..
This is what i seem to remember as well.
If I remember XMA supplied us and there came preinstalled with Office 2003 on them
Ours came preinstalled with Office 2003 from XMA, although it will depend on the agreement your LEA made with the selected distributor at the time.

Remember that with the LfT machines they often came with Office standard. That means no Access or Publisher. Whilst some may say that this is no bad thing it does mean that you are not fully covered if you rebuild the machines and put Office Pro on.
Try to get a copy of the original delivery note or any other documentation (from LA or otherwise).
If in doubt gve the supplier a ring.
I remember the Acer from XMA,
I am sure that all the Dell, RM amd Acer came in with Office 2003 but i am struggling to find proof.
