When a teacher or TA goes on maternity leave do you let them keep the laptop or ask for it back? The way I understand it, is the staff member doesn’t have to say if they are coming back or not right away.

an image is taken before they go on meternity leave and then the system is put back to its default configured settings for the person who will be covering. when they come back the image is then sent back to the laptop with virus and ms updates applied.
Thats a really good idea. Didnt think of that. Edugeek should get togather and write a book on tips.
Awkard when a member of staff is on long term sick - when told so and so is now off for indefinate period I always find myself saying 'does anyone know where their laptop is?' makes me look a touch insensitive but then the longterm supply staff have to make do with duff old spare laptop.
We generally allow the member of staff on maternity or long term sick to keep the laptop.
I have more trouble getting laptops back from retired teachers rather then sick ones.
I have a constantly changing list of 6-8 people on a whiteboard who are ill, on maternity or pregnant.
Staff are supposed to return them to us unless given an exemption.
Usually if no cover is being brought in then they are allowed to keep hold.
However staff can be requested to hand in the schools property at anytime.

We ask if the member of staff is going to still be using it to contribute to the school. If they are not going to use it then we take it back (ooh .. the image is a good idea!) and allow the person covering to have it.
Make sure you turn the WiFi off.............

We recently had a member of staff who returned with a laptop that somehow she managed to keep while she was off (we usually collect them back in) She wondered why she couldn't log on. One look at the laptop, and I realised why, it still had our old domain name in the box! That's over a year at least!
Was a right PITA to logon and get her work off it, as she couldn't remember her password, and I couldn't remember the local admin password!
