What to do with old 2.5" drives?

As we have replaced a batch of machines with SSDs we have a stack of 2.5" drives sat doing nothing, thoughts on what we could use them for?

you can still use them as spares for your desktop PCs. You can normally use just 1 screw to hold it in place as they're light.

What size are they and how old roughly? I'd be weary of using older 2.5" drives for anything, they've never seemed as reliable as 3.5"'s

We have small desktops that only have space for one drive.

Depends on size, but Ebay? 2.5" SATA drives have value due to the number of PS3s with stingy capacity drives. We have a huge number of brand new drives sitting about due to SSD swap outs - they'll be sold.

As they are ex-school drives I would not let them out of the building, either we put them to use or they are destroyed.

Agreed - DBAN will sort that. It's just a bit labour intensive if you have a few!

Take them down to D&T one day and weld a sculpture out of them?

Ouch. If it helps, dban will wipe as many drives as you can connect to a machine - all at the same time. Boot it from usb (yumi to make the bootable usb), select autonuke when it boots, pull the usb when the image has been read and walk away for an hour or two. Leave the usb stick in and you'll be making a new one...
