Default Use of old computers

Anyone got any good ideas for the use of 8 old computers, there running Win 98 and are 500mhz with 128mb ram, I'm open to trying out Linux! :!:

We could really do with a couple of print servers.

Any ideas :?:

An 8-machine Internet cafe running Slax or Xubuntu Linux, booting from the CD-ROM drive. Disconnect the harddrives to save power and bother. You can get second-hand 15" LCD screens for around £30 each if space is a bit of an issue.

You could use them as Thin clients and setup an Edubuntu server

You could also setup one as an Asterisk server using Asterisk Know. With the other 7 put one in your room, the server room & the ICT rooms. Connect a USB phone and use a softphone, to connect to the asterisk and there you have it you will have a makeshift VOIP service. Unless you have VOIP already.

Of course you could use SIP Phones

I would have to agree - either start building a wall or find a skip!

(The wall would be more fun though IMHO)

Turn a couple into print servers, use the others as a internet cluster with a basic linux OS and a web browser. Makes use of them in some way I suppose!
