    Weighing in server

    Hi all,

I've got one of those 'enforced' days off today, so I've decided to tackle the garage...

Now, in there is a large bundle of computer wires, all old stuff that is now obsolete and an old HP server(4U heavy bugger by the name of Albert )

Can these be taken to the scrapyard in exchange for toy tokens? Or will they laugh me off the premises, quote WEEE and send me to the tip?

Any advice appreciated, end of the month and all that and if I can make money on a day off, that would be nice

    Thanks

    James

Probably not worth the fuel for something that is mostly steel.

Even the large bundle of wires, and I mean a good couple of bin bags full, wouldn't they be copper?

The scrap yard will want you to strip the wires if you want to weigh the copper in, or charge you for them to do it which then would give you pennies back...

Put it this way I took 70 kilos of bike engine which is mostly Aluminium with steel and that was only £20 at current scrap rates. I took 2 kilos or pure copper bar as well and that was about £4.

Good luck with the server, be prepared for an argument with site staff who will try and say it's not household waste, I had an old Cisco beast which I bought specifically 2nd hand for Lab work and just about got them to take it. May be easier to dispose of through your work places IEEE disposal.
