Default Asset Tracking

Morning all,

I am looking at some sort of bar code asset tracking of our IT equipment. We will have probably around 2000 items at least. Some of the stuff has bar coded serial no's and some of it has no serial No's.

I am therefore looking into some sort of barcode tracking system, which is flexible enough to use existing barcodes and create barcodes for items that have no serial No.

Rather than reinventing the wheel in terms of tracking down any solutions, does anybody use a system or know of a system that is capable of this.

Cheers

manick

We have just bought a couple of Motorola Symbol MC35 PDA's with barcode scanners and are about to buy the WASP MobileAsset system with a label printer.

When I tested it, it worked like a dream.

However, altogether the system came to £900 plus £450 per PDA including accessories).

I've had nothing but trouble with the WASP stuff. We got the PDA/Scanner, Barcode Printer and server software. The printer's got issues, the software won't run properly, there seems to be no relevant software/utils on the pda and the manual is written in poor English with little technical detail. Great....
