You will need to complete the BIOS recover steps as outlined on the Acer website. If this does not work, then you will have no choice but to contact Acer who may charge you to restore the BIOS. Ed

Sadly I had a similar experience with another make of computer recently. This one was a desktop with an American Megatrends motherboard. It also ended up with a black screen on an attempted BIOS update. Why it failed I have no idea, the power didn't fail or anything but the machine had recently been restored to factory settings after blue screening. The BIOS update from CD had worked on another computer of the same make and model.

The machine is working fine again now but only after the motherboard was replaced. I suspect this may well be what you need to do with your Acer.
