RM Notebook 310 - Replacement screen

We've had one of our laptops broken because a USB left on the keyboard [First one, I feel like a real tech now.] and RM won't fix it under warrenty as it's "accidental damage". Fair enough.

We recieved a form saying we agree to any repairs <200 [with >200 needing further approval] along with a notice on it saying if we don't agree to >200 we still have to pay 55 for delivery.

I had a look about online and a screen on it's own is about 45. Does anyone know how RM's prices compare to this? [I know theirs includes fitting and testing it as well.]

You could always get them to quote for just the screen and fit it yourself, it's an easy enough job.

EDIT ... If it's any help, they quoted me 95 for a replacement for a notebook 300 last year ... that's just for the part, I fitted it myself.

If you can't fit a screen as an IT tech you need to learn, so I would advise just ordering the screen off them and sorting it yourself - will give you some valuable experience as it won't be the last!

Most screens are easy to fit however I have seen some stupid HP designs recently and a very bad Dell that required almost the whole machine to be disassembled first!

I got a quote back just after I posted this.

    106.60 - screen
    40 - labour
    15 - carriage

I'm tempted to send them a link to the 45 one and tell them to try again.

I can. It's just that it's still under warranty, and I have a bad feeling RM will refuse to fix it ever again if I replace the screen. [voided warranty.]
