Dell Dat 72 Power Vault won't go online.

I have a Dell Dat 72 Power Vault (PV-100T) that failed to back up over the weekend. Error V-79-57344-33035. In properties I have set the device to Enabled but the Online status although ticked is greyed out and the device continues to fail to run.

Operating System: Server Windows 2000

Cables checked OK. Power OK. I have selected services and can see all relevant Veritas are running as is backup device service - latter restarted but the problem remains.

Any ideas please?

Has anything been altered on the server to result in the gremlins with your drive i.e update applied to backup exec. ? loss of power to the server over the weekend, previous issues ?

have you tried restarting the actual server ?

backup exec on windows will control most aspects of tape drives abd librarues, that's certainly the case with hp autoloaders - where the veritas drivers are used to detect and interact with the drive. If it isn't a hardware issue, and it's not a simlple case of cleaning the drive reinstalling backup exec may be your only option - i'm not familiar with dell drives so i'd try the dell forums if you don't get any joy here before you do anything drastic. I'm guessing your server and drive aren't covered otherwise it'd be a simple one for dell support?

You could also try running tapeinst and removing/reinstalling the drivers.
