Any recomendations on good NAS devices?

    Hi folks,

Just want to pick peoples brains. I am after a 2 x 2tb NAS devices to go on our AD network. I was initially looking at getting them to run vmware images off but found out performance isnt great. thing is ive managed to secure the money and need to get them anyway.

i was originally looking at 2 of these:
    http://www.infrant.com/products/prod...dyNAS%20NVPlus
But have since discovered they do not work very well with vmware esx. Something to do with NFS.

    Someone recomended these:

Looks great but put off by the limit of 25 users!

I have recently had a bad experience of iomega storecenter that didnt even work. Going to steer clear of any iomega devices!

Anyone any recomedations on a good 2tb NAS device. Ive got about £2000/$4000 to play with.

    Any recomendations gratefully received.

    Thanks

    John

I'll say it before, and I'll say it again. Build your own - Freenas.

The ReadyNas has a puny storage processor, its good at what it does, I have one here but you aren't going to be able to run many, perhaps *any* ESX vms off a box costing that little. Its ok to use for low volume file access, and it has lots of nice features. I wouldn't dream of using it with ESX though.

If its not on the ESX Hardware compatability list then you shouldn't buy it! You are going to need a more serious iscsi or Fibre storage box.

we just put this 5x SATAbay (£80)into an old ML370, added an sata raid card 5*500GB disks (£300) a 1gb/s intel Nic (£70) and a decent O/S (free)
to build a nas backup server.
