Hi
At home I have had a Brother HL-5250DN laser B&W printer for a few months now shared between 4 computers it has been working perfect until the other day. I don't understand what’s going on with it! It is a network printer connected via Ethernet.
When i go into "Printers & Faxes" it says the printer is offline. I checked the printer via Internet Explorer it says "ready". At this point i can't get it work the only way to get it to work is by deleting the printer and adding it again then its fine until I reboot, then it says its offline again.
I have done the following:
Swapped Network Cable
Swapped Ports On Switch
I Can Ping The Printer When It Says Its Offline
Checked The Printer Port
Anyone Got Any Ideas?
Thanks
PS: Running Windows XP

If it's anything like the one I had then you just need to switch it off and on again at the switch on the printer.

Hi there,
I had the same problem with two of my Magicolour printers after the school holidays. I fixed the issue by changing the printer to point to the LPT port (so I could delete the IP address port) and then recreating the printers TCP\IP port. When I recreated the port instead of using "Generic Network Port" in the list I chose a Magicolour driver.
Hope this helps.

If isn't just set as offline (a tick option on one of the menus when you open the print queue)?

Thanks chaps none of them worked but I think I have cracked it, I have found an older driver and it appears to work so far. But I can't understand why it has only just started happening.

Re: Brother HL-5250DN Problem
I had a similar problem with a HP Laserjet. We had just installed 44 PCs and a PC was competeing for the IP address, despite the printer having a static IP!
All sorted now ! Quite worried it managed to happen! :?
