Has anyone had any problems with the power supplys to HP server's of Workstations. Last year we had to have the power supply changed on the server and then just today we had the same power supply go up in flames, literally!! fire brigade and all. Just wondering if its a known problem or we have just been unlucky. Can't remember for definate but sure I had to arrange for a workstation to have its power supply changed before that. It wasn't a spike as the supply to the server is filtered and surge protected. Electricians checked the supply afterwards as well.

We recently had both power supplies go on one of our HP Prolient ML G370s at the same time. HP swapped them both out and all's been well ever since.

You titled your post "NEC Power Supply Problems" but are asking about HP?

Oops, it was one of those days! The header was correct, it was about NEC systems (sorry HP). After having the server catch fire on the first day back, it somewhat upset the equlibrium 8O
I knew someone would spot my deliberate mistake

Ah ok well in that case I have had 2 nec desktops blow their power supplies and take out the motherboard with them.

Thanks, good to know I am not alone! Can't wait for next summer to see if the server survives that one! Two summers, two failures, not bad average

Wow, someone else with NEC problems. Yeah, we have had a few go recently, even though the company that we bought them off said that they are 99.99999% reliable. Well we bought 100 off this company, and so far 2 have failed, one with a power supply and one with a motherboard, these machines being the VL260 Slim Chassis.
Also, we bought, 15 VL260 desktops about a year ago and a machines CPU fan blades have somehow snapped off, even thought there is a 17" CRT monitor on the machine :? and another has a failed motherboard, so we are awaiting parts.... Still. We have 4 year next business day support and it has now been 2 weeks. Even though machines come with warranties, technicians still have to test each part to see what has failled before someone will come out 2 weeks later and replace the part.
On the other hand we have a fair few dells, now theie customer service and sales team might be a bit on the shabby side but since the machines have been in for a good few years, we have only had one PSU failure which they replaced straight away, and one motherboard failure with again took a good week and arguing with supervisors at dell for someone to comeout and swap a motherboard.

Our desktop PCs were the VL350's and the sever a TM800. Support and servoce has not been bad so far...well apart from when the support on the other end of the phone last year when the server went down. Followed all the usual questions of what was happening and what happened after his instructions, then he asked me if I had any ideas what may be wrong!!!! 8O Thought they were supposed to tell me! Ah well they just decided to come out and change the supply and motherboard anyway to all solved eventually (untill this summer when the supply went up in flames!).

Got some old NEC Powermates - [ just finished replacing them ] - had a few PSUs go in there - they are quite good work horses though - now got two of them under my desk, 1 at home running as FREENAS box with two 80 gig mirrored [ software ] drives in and the other as a gateway box which is in my DMZ collecting all sorts of dodgy packets....
I like them as they are quiet...

Well I've had enough of NEC machines now and won't be buying any more.
We have 60+ in 2 rooms that as we bought them through a reseller they only came with 12months warranty and some that are now 18 months old have blown power supplies.
Everyone of those has also taken out the motherboard.
NEC's out of warranty parts supplier wants £60 for a PSU and £79 for a motherboard making this an expensive repair.
I cannot source the same m/boards anywhere else so I've been buying msi boards instead to replace at £28.
Now I know we only had 12 months warranty but I expect a pc to last longer than that.
Does the sale of goods act cover a business buying things for themselves from another business?
