Worthwhile getting a duplex printer?
I've got my eye on getting a HP 602 LaserJet printer, but as with everything there are several variations...
1 is the HP 602DN which includes an automatic duplex feature, and the base model is the HP 602N which doesn't include duplex feature as standard.
I'm undecided as to whether the duplex feature at roughly £150 extra is worth it. It's for a 6th form study area, & I'm trying to work out whether I would actually want duplex if I was a student using the equipment!
So question is - to duplex or not to duplex?

I'd prefer duplex, depending on your printing system duplex could be made to cost slightly less and it makes lighter notes/assignment printouts.
I would duplex just for the environmental benefits.

all about choice

16th January 2013, 01:01 PM #5 The additional cost for the duplex feature should be offset by the amount of paper saved over the lifetime of the printer (assuming you set the printer to print on both sides of the paper by default that is). I would pay the extra if your sixth formers are anything like ours.

at £1.50 a ream ( what we pay our local supplier ) that's 100 reams of 500 pages that's 50,000 pages need to be printed on the second side before it's worth it.
Do you envisage that will happen?
If not then if it's a cost saving idea to duplex then No it's probably not worth it.
But the advantage of being able to do 2side is good.

Before we had MFDs, most printouts were never collected by students and ended up in the bin so it wouldn't take long for us to get through 100 reams.

The last time I looked we were paying £1.80-£2.00 per ream. Then there was the cost of toner too.

16th January 2013, 05:04 PM #9 Toner costs are the same for 2 sheets and 1 sheet duplex.
Not sure on our actual ream cost now, but we used to buy about 5000 a year when when had individual printers and a few main Copiers.
I don't think that has reduced at all now that we have MFD's with follow me print and Pcounter.
