Wall-mounted touch screen monitor for printing

    Hey guys and gals,

Just looking for a few suggestions really.

We use PaperCut to track and manage printing in school and we've decided we'd like to set up a computer in the printing room which will queue prints for people to collect without them needing to change printing properties every time they want to print colour (they have to use their user code to print colour so we can track usage)

Does anybody have recommendations for touch screen monitors they've used? We'd preferably want to mount it on the wall and keep the computer out of the way.
It will either be connected to a W7 laptop or desktop. We haven't yet asked for a budget, we're currently just interested to see our options.

    Cheers.

    Regards,
    Jack

    Hi Jack,

We sell a lot of Iiyama Monitors into educational facilities without issue so I would opt for those. The iiyama ProLite T2452MTS-B1 23.6" LED Monitor T2452MTS-B1 is well priced for what it is and is multitouch also.

    Hope it helps.

Can you not just set up a colour printer queue with it's properties allready set and that asks for their user details?

    Hey Chris,

Thanks for the recommendation, that seems a good choice.

    Hi Ben,

Yeah I know there's better ways to go about this but I've been asked to set it up this way so I'd rather follow instructions and get to set up a new toy

Looks interesting Ted but not for our particular situation though.

Thanks anyway, I'm gonna keep that bookmarked

    Cool

We use redirected printers - i.e. single physical device, but two items appear in the printers list for users. Then they just pick "Curric_Colour" for colour prints or leave at the default "Curric_BW". That way they don't have to mess around with printer settings. Maybe try that and order a Surface Pro to play with

Haha no reason is good enough for me to get a Surface from school seeing as I leave in March

We have a separate black&white printer which they don't need a user code for and 2 coloured printers in a printing room...we're basically just setting that room up with a touch screen with PaperCut running which will show print jobs as people send them, then they select their's and print.

Teachers were finding it too much to type a 4 digit code every time they wanted to print colour :')

    Jack

@jmak I assume you just set the properties on each, one to mono and one to colour? Or is this done within PaperCut?

Correct. And the users can (be shown how to) save their code so that they don't have to enter it every time.

The idea of making users go to the printer to kick off their jobs is starting to grow on me. I'm sure that we generate lots of duplicate printing because people walk off with other users' prints.

I haven't actually got around to using one, but these might be the kind of thing you want:

We did this about a month before Christmas but without the touchscreen. It made it much easier for the staff as befoer they had pins for the large printers in the repro room. Much easier now, just log on to the pc in the room and release their jobs.

We have paxton door access so all staff have fobs.. I setup a touchscreen and fob reader with papercut. Staff just walk up to the printer, place their fob over the reader and press relase on the touchscreen...no keyboard or mouse required.

might be an option.. if your staff have fobs already.

If not fobs/cards are pretty cheap (but granted the real cost would be the readers)
