HP 620 Battery Issue
We bought 22 of the above laptops in 2010, and I have been having a few unique faults with them. The latest being that Windows 7 reports that the laptop is "Plugged in, not charging".
I have tried a replacement battery, different (original) power supplies, unplugging the battery in all sorts of combinations, removing the battery driver. All to no avail.
The next step is to re-image the laptop.
Has anyone got any other ideas?
Thanks

It is a custom Windows 7 Enterprise x64 image that has been running for many months, not all the HP 620 laptops currently have issues. There has been 4 out of 22 with this issue, another was with a screen.

Typical lol. The battery I tried was taken out of a good known laptop that charged up...i never tried charging the other battery in the working one tho.......

8th January 2013, 04:42 PM #8 We bought 4 HP620s a couple of years ago. We had one total battery failure at 11.5 months and 2 more failed at 13 months. After some argument, HP replaced the batteries out of warranty. They were total sudden failures - you couldn't even boot the PC with the battery installed as it was drawing too much current trying to charge the battery. Teachers first noticed when they unplugged from the mains and the machine just stopped dead - no hibernation or Hdd parking. HP got me to install a proprietary battery analysis app to test to their standards before arranging the swap. Let me know if you want the link to the download.
On that history I won't be buying HP laptops again.

Yep - we have 5 year old Dells which look better than the 2 year old HPs. I've heard good things about Lenovos, so I'll have a look at those at BETT.

Could you feed back? I have had a couple of Lenovo's but the support hasn't been very good on them

9th January 2013, 12:05 PM #12 Spooky
The first thing I saw when I got in yesterday was that a battery had failed in an HP620
Stupidly, I took it on trust - yes, I know, I know - and ordered a new one.
Had to show the laptop owner something on it today so I plugged it in with no battery and it didnt work. Swapped the charger and it now does
I had already ordered the battery and had to leave that school so a panicky call to Terry @millenium got the order stopped (bless him)
I will do some swapping out tomorrow to find out what is going on.
It also turns out that the teacher was pushing for a new battery really quickly (which is what made me just order it) because she didnt realise that the laptop would work happily without the battery as long as it had power! Now she knows that she isnt quite as worried.
Strangely, the first thing at my other school this morning was two failed batteries (carefully cross checked with working chargers and known-good batteries)

Seems to be a very common issue with the HP 620, I have 2 other laptops that needed new batteries. I hope it is just that otherwise they are faulty as well as I have already got the batteries

You could buy lenovo or just buy the probook or elite book range of HP instead of the consumer grade disposable ice cream container series.

Isn't the Probook double the price?
