Just playing with our delivery of Stone machines and they have front firewire however it is not plugged in, the connection looks the exact same as a front USB connector so can we stick it in the spare 'Front_USB' slot on the motherboard or isn't it that simple?
The motherboard in question is a INTEL D945GCNL

no its not that simple, it needs the firewire card attached.
is it just the connector at the front of the machine then? theres nothing else attached?
That board does not have firewire, you would need a board with firewire to use that port on the front of your case thats why it is not connected.
I have one of these http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/products/...Code=2916-2023
to connect up the front firewire connections, in my home machine.
It has the internal connection, but it also has the standard "external" connector, which is the thing I use to plug into something like this:

(except mine has firewire, only I couldn't find a link for one).
You can't plug Firewire into USB, it doesn't work like that, which is a pity.
OK cheers, we were just wondering why the machines had the port there!
(Some of them were covered by little caps but we had to remove these before the kids had chance to start using them as classroom missiles...)
