Still seems a good deal though

Was just reading about the new Dell Vostro range that they are hoping will entice SME's back to them from the likes of the small guys.
Not a bad little lost leader! But I always prefer to brew my own.![]()
This looks like the Pentium Dual Core and not the Core2Duo. Still not a bad price and the Core2Duo processors are not badly priced as well.1.6 Ghz Intel Dual Core
I'm sure with a large quantity the 3 years warranty could be added without any cost and probably upped the RAM as well as well as the one of delivery so one shouldn't worry about the delivery cost that much.
Ash.
For god's sake PLEASE order the restore CDs from them.
If you want to play with linux or installing various other operating systems on it then you are quite likely to kill the restore partition.
I recommended linux to a friend who got me to install it and it killed off his dell restore partition. I got blamed as expected. But i then ordered restore CDs for him to try and shut him up.
He agreed to the linux damnnit!

Can't you just re-install XP & download drivers from website?
You wouldn't get all that lovely dell branding and boot utilities if you did that
*eurgh*
Can't you just re-install XP & download drivers from website?![]()
Yeah and if you have to phone to report a fault I'm sure the first thing the nice indian person will say is please restore the dell windows from your restore disc !
LOL
From my experience the call ends up in Ireland as opposed to India and never really had any problems.
I suppose the Dell restore and utilities are a good thing rather than bad as it helps them and you also to solve the problems quicker rather than going through various things and trying out the suggestions etc.
Ash.
Bugger the Dell tools...format the machine and install debian.
Anyway...yh...ireland is where i ended up when i had to call up and request the restore disks for my mate.

They don't, not with me anywayOriginally Posted by PeterW
The first thing they ask for is your service tag or something like that.

yer that’s to identify the computer to check if there is warranty if there isn’t they say good bye basically.
Yup. If you enter it on the website you can see who purchased the PC aswell (iirc). It shows the shipping date of my second hand poweredge![]()
