    In industry and high availability this is something taken into account by the majority of suppliers; they work around the fact that their customers are often people with as many qualifications as them and require things to be working very quickly. Some companies offset that with damn quick engineering turnarounds, otherwise others are very happy to let people do a *reasonable* diagnostic and swapout. Misco and Stone are certainly happy with that, as are Dell despite having same-day callouts. Not tried HP, never had to. Ebuyer are end user orientated so are not.

    Anyway - we could go the opposite way - run memtest86 on it!

    You don't need bad RAM to produce that screen effect, a stick not making a good connection on all pins in the RAM slot is enough to end up with varying degrees of screen corruption/artifacts.
