Hello
Were i am working a CLC they have two building one in Middleton and one in Rochdale. Upstairs they both have a laptop room with Toshiba Laptops, 30 in each with 2 interactive whiteboards in each room. The laptops came with remote controls what are used on the odd ocasion.
When a user turns the projector on or off the remote for the sanyo projector shutdowns the laptops. This is a real pain in the arse becuase we can people coming to us we have lost our work or CLC Guests need to be logged back on again.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Re: Odd Laptop & Projector Problem
The closest I had to this problem was many moons ago when I was copying a VHS tape with two Hitachi VCRs with identical on/off remote codes. Unless you can somehow change the remote control codes on both the handset and remotely controlled device, i would suggest the low tech answer of a bit of electrical tape over the laptop IR reciever.

Can't you disable the IR device in device manager?

yes but when we want to use the remotes we have to go and enable them all again. I think we are just best of removing the remotes

Hi,
I had similar problem with my Toshiba laptop shutting down when I used the remote for my iPod HiFi - cured by a bit of tape over the IR port on the laptop.
I see on our new Sanyo projectors from Promethean that it is possible to have two different codes for the remote controls (so that you can control two adjacent projectors independently; code1 and code2) - do your Sanyo projectors have this function?
May be worth a try...

Yes we use the two codes because this room has 2 IWBs

Re: Odd Laptop & Projector Problem
Isn't there a control panel on the laptops for the IR (similar to quick lauch buttons on keyboards) where you can change what each button does. Could change the shutdown one to just be blank and do nothing.

Open them up and tape over the INSIDE of the IR window.

The other thing you could try is hardware profiles - have the IR disabled in the default profile, and when you want to use it reset the machines and select the IR enabled profile
