    IDE HDD boot sector failure

a member of staff had a HDD failure and a well meaning friend ran fixboot from the recovery console.

They now have a c: partition but no data.

Anyone recommend a cheap/free product that could recover their data as they have no backup and so no work.

Re: IDE HDD boot sector failure

I'm guessing they had seperate data and system partitions?

Check what fdisk thinks is going on. If the 'data' partition is missing try recreating it.
