[pedant]Typo: "however small problem you have reported"[/pedant]

-1 for not including something tongue-in-cheek like:

    a) "if your home computer was a car, it'd be the one covered in bumper stickers, an exhaust dragging on the ground and a boot full of dead ladies of negotiable virtue. The school computers, to continue the analogy, may be boring grey Mondeos, but they start every time, get good mpg and you don't have the stickers and full boot problem."

    b) "because when you're at home the worst that'll happen regarding your goat* problem is you may lose files if you don't back it up. At work (and depending on the serious of your goat-foo) we could get the whole server (with everyone's files on) confiscated by the police. So we're saving everyone else from your rural inclinations. Yes Jeff**, I'm talking to you."

    *no-one called Jeff works here.
**yes, I do use this explanation. Goat jokes are fine, but you should know your audience beforehand.

Spot on as far as I'm concerned. The trolls on the TES forums won't like it, but that's the TES's problem until they sort out some proper moderation over there.

That's because they have probably spotted themselves!

We have some users like that. Its even worse if they have their own AD at home (now everyone @ Smoothwall knows who this is) so they think its even easier for our poor sysadmin (who is an ex school tech, and an edugeek member I might add).

Absolutely spot on - if I was still working at school I would certainly post it on the staff room notice board. On second thoughts I might "arrange" for that to happen anyway

Soon to be printed and placed on the notice boards, on the front of my Spice Works Portal page and may even include it as a mail out.
Had to bite my tongue this afternoon at a member of staff who said those words to me.....

A small criticism on the "divide": I've never noticed the implied correlation between s/w company size and s/w quality. Some big companies have caused me lots of pain, some small companies have produced "gems" (largely I suspect because they're not bogged down with big company overheads and manglement/political infrastructure). It all seems pretty random, however the "it's your fault flaky product X isn't working" meme is very predictable.

I thought/hoped that DB was just using the range of sizes to illustrate "range" rather than as an indicator of likely quality.

Give me a break. I've got 500 words and can't afford to get bogged down with details. It called the 'Sun' system of jounalism.
