There was no sarcasm, although the ambiguity also applies to the question.

As always the first to reply to my musings. I have always wondered what it would be like to have a stalker, now I know. Oh and before you attempt to make any more lighthearted quips at my expense I realize you deliberately missed of the end of the sentence in the feeble effort to prove a point. Well done you, who is the troll now?

26th January 2010, 01:08 PM #37 Admin's administrate - looking after the day-to-day running of the site. They tend not to get involved in breaking up fights.
Mod's moderate... break up fights, kill off spammers, etc
God is God... as founder of the site he can do as he darn well pleases, including tell us off when he's had enough of the bickering

Just faster fingers. I'm not prepared to derail threads, if you have a problem with me take it to PM.

I'm afraid that it really doesn't help at all. What does an Admin do and what does a Mod do?
And my own feeling is that a lot of the problems stem from the fact that the technical forums are now an unnavigatable mess. I don't look at them, I look at technical posts on the front page and that's all. I can't really be bothered to scroll through a list of millions of forums most of which overlap or apply to technology that's used by a very small number of people. Seriously do we need a dedicated Netware forum? There were 6 posts in there last year, surely it should come under *nix. If the Netware forum is to stay it should be listed with the other server OSes, not between Learning Network Manager (what's that forum for anyway?) and Network and Classroom Management.
Net result BTRD and GD tend to be the sections I look in most. They are also the two forums where I will make a flippant rather then a useful post.
EDIT: Some additional posts were made while this one was writen including ElsieGee's which has cleared it up a little.

I will also add that administrate = web admin, the code behind the site, recruiting advertisers and sponsors, etc
moderator = crowd control

Oh for goodness sake. Of course general chat can be used. What DB has asked for is restraint and that general mucking about doesn't overtake the tech support this site was founded for.
I get it. Why can't anyone else?

So when these members are then see taking part in light hearted discussions, directing comments at suppliers, you can see how normal members will either see it as a green light to continue, or on the other hand get upset when they are pulled up on similar posts.
I do not make this comment to cause offense but to suggest something that may help stop this happening in the future.
That's a good idea. Look a the RM Communities Forum where there is a page dedicated to listing the moderators. Maybe that idea could be used and expanded with more information.
