Default May Conf Update!

Right, a few points for you all:

1. Please ensure that YOU book your hotel (Ibis Preston) the registartion form may give the impression that we would do it for you. We won't. We will refund part of your stay on the day though.

2. The venue may be changing. To the Woodlands Conference Centre. Its all of an extra 10 meters away from my building as they have very large dedicated conf rooms and facilities as the rooms in my centre are on the small size with no air con.

3. Speakers and topic to date:

Tom Newton (Smooth Wall) on current network security issues
Mark Power (Net-Ctrl) on large wireless installs
RM - New shiny (tiny HP) laptop
Me - Server 2008 overview and new features
Tony Sheppard - School AUPs-Policies (provisional)
EduGeek admins - big Q&A session-raffle

4. All goodies are now on order (mugs, hats, bags etc). Should be good.

Chnage of venue. As our rooms were small and my boss and I were getting concerned about how warm it has become recently so I have shifted it to the Woodlands Conference Centre (same site, different building, better conf facilities). I have booked (for those who have been there before) the Oak room. It is a large (the largest there) purpose built room and has a HUGE projector and screen + air con etc. It will be a lot more comfatable. There is also free wi-fi and a small internet suite in the centre. More info here:

I am thinking of coming up by train as it is a three hour drive for me otherwise and Ihave a really packed weekend planned so my question is:

Is there a train station near to the hotel?

If so how far away? Walking distance, bus, taxi, areoplane ;-)

What the name of the station?

We shall be dining out on both nights (Wednesday and Thursday) I'm not sure how much EG can contribute on both nights though. I will collect you all and we shall walk down to the Black Bull (4 min walk) and have a beer before getting a bus into town for the princely sum of £1!

P.S. Thurday night will be EduGeeks third birthday party (we are 3 on June 5th but it seems an ideal time to have one!)

That remids me, I must book a coach tomorrow!

Why is that? You can get into pubs can't you if you're under 18?

Is novtech_2008 the same person as Edu-Tech? Confusing!

It's my birthday a few days before the conference so if I was to go then I would be able to get served legally. Unfortunately I have to work.

Is that the one on Dunkirk Lane? If so i am just staying right close, just near the farm shop.
