24th December 2007, 11:16 PM #1 The EduGeek Christmas Message 2007
To one and all, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This year has been what can only be described as phenomenal . We started with less than 2000 members 12 months ago and now we have just shy of 5000. Almost all of whom give their time and advice freely, and with the knowledge you would expect from those in possibly the most demanding IT role on the planet, educational techies.
The next twelve months are going to be even more amazing, the new site is going live in the next couple of weeks (Oh, didn’t we tell you?) with facilities that no other forum yet utilises (once we get some other issues ironed out and once the main site is live), voice chat anyone?
The new site will have quite a few features that will enable us to gather possibly the largest integrated IT support community in the world, such as single sign on for all areas, including the Wiki, and all for free, in fact, the way we are offering a service like this still amazes me, you would not believe the amount of times that corporate business looks stunned when I tell them that we do not charge for anything, they simply can’t understand it!
So thank you all for making this a community worth living in, and please remember, if you have a skill or talent we could utilise and are willing to work for a greater good (all right, for free) like so many other here then please do not hesitate to contact us, all help is most welcome.
Before I finish and get back to watching Mrs Dos_Box putting all the little Dos_Box children’s toys under the tree let me finish by giving my thanks to the following forum members and staff for their help, support and just for being there.
ZeroHour – For developing the new site single handedly for many months now.
Grumbledook – For organising everything, ever.
Sysman _MK – For the new EduGeek logo. I am forever in your debt.
Russdev – For being a new daddy and still getting stuck in (I know exactly how it feels).
Ric – For phoning me daily at exactly the time I didn’t want to be phoned!
Our sponsors and supporters – For knowing that open discussion is far better than closed practices.
All forum members – For keeping me in legal documents, writs and ensuring that living under a pseudonym keeps quite a few jealous and nasty people at bay!
Merry Christmas to you all, and we hope to see you at BETT 2008. Pop over and chat to us won’t you (Stand G89 BTW).
Chris Byers (Dos_Box)

Well Dos_Box has done the official Christmas message. May I be allowed to offer an alternative Christmas message? Hopefully I can speak on behalf of everyone on EduGeek saying;
Thank you Dos_Box! You have created and overseen something that is truly awesome and, for another year, grows ever stronger, even more popular and arguably, most importantly, more helpful! I hope that you and your family have a peaceful and relaxing Christmas and a well deserved break over the new year.
(Thanks to the other staff, admins, mods and dev team working on Secondus too
)

I only joined recently but so far I've found everyone here to be very helpful. EduGeek.net is a great site and although I don't know much about the history of the site and those who are responsible for running it I do feel that they deserve a huge thank you. I look forward to seeing how the site progresses in 2008.

I'd just like to thank Dos_Box for giving us all a chance to play in what started off as a small forum for a few people to chat and share stuff.
It truly has been a fun year ... and I can't believe how excited I get about something that doesn't put money in the bank (other than Apple kit!!! oh my ... another kitten has gone!)

I thank edugeek for those times when I've been staring blankly at a computer screen wondering what my next tactic's going to be when solving a problem.
For giving me inspiration to develop ideas in my School
For reminding me 'I am not alone'!
For giving me a nice feeling inside when someone likes your advice, or responds to a question you've asked in a positive way!
For giving me something to do at obscene hours of the morning when I've just rolled in from the pub (like now! lol)
This really is one of the best on-line communities I've been privledged to be part of, I take a lot from it and I hope I give a lot back too. Here's to a good 2008, I look forward to seeing the new site, and to meeting some of you guys at BETT early next year!
Mike.

In the last year Edugeek has become my lifeline to sanity, education and knowledge. I find myself logging on when I am feeling low as I know I will find some gem of info, something to laugh at and even something to swear at (takes my mind off other stuff, anyway!).
I take my hat off to you guys
*filling up now*
