So strike day, 30th November, is also payday....and from reports i have heard the local shopping center (meadowhall) is packed to the rafters with people....im sure this is purley coincidence and all the teachers are out on the picket lines aren't they?
Meadowhall is always snided this time of year anyway. I'd be interested in seeing how the sales of the city centre compare to usual as that's where most of the striking people are.
The morning mid-week is a very very very slow time at meadowhall though and apparently been packed since opening time
schools vary one i was at first thing was almost like normal a few teachers missing school open kids in. School im at now no kids very few teachers and admin staff/head no picket lines
Add the fact that at most schools it is pay day too....
Maybe then. According to news it's been quite a good turnout in the city centre. Only problem is I have to drive through it :( hopefully it will have cleared by then.
Leeds City Council get paid on the 16th.
yikes, ive not been into town center since i finished college pretty much, just a few nights out and thats it
Well, 90% of the teachers I know out on strike were planning on going shopping so its not surprising.
You've got to give the unions full credit form making going on strike as attractive to teachers as possible and who would refuse the chance of a day off in the middle of a half term :)

Just an idea - if they make the next one start on Jan 23rd (traditionally the most depressing day of the year) then they'll get an even bigger turnout as people are so cheesed off by having no money following Christmas!

Schools closed ..... kids at home ...... how to keep them occupied ...... take them shopping!!!
I work london rd. area so I'm near enough city centre and have to go through it to get to the parkway to go home. Other than that I very rarely go to town due to lack of parking and hatred of busses.Quote:
