Autoglass + Chipped Windscreen

Following a trip out last week I though I'd best get a couple of chips on my windscreen sorted out, so last night I went to their site, and booked a 'repair at work' session. Within half an hour the phone rang and an Autoglass rep began to confirm my details then mentioned I had to pay my insurance excess on the job! This of course got me a little worried as the radio ads they run didn't say anything about this, however, as I was fully comp it was a paltry £10! Very chuffed. The guy turned up a hour ago fixed the chips, and I am now a happy bunny. If only all services could be this seamless :)
Anyway, well done Autoglass, you've made me a happy customer.

The excess depends entirely on your insurance provider - Direct Line and some of the small companies they underwrite do charge a tenner, nearly everyone else is free. Funnily enough it's the main reason I left DL - with the state of the roads round here I average 5 or 6 chip repairs a year.

Tesco is £15 I think but that's a lot better than leaving the chip and having to pay the £100 - £150 windscreen excess well unless your windscreen cracks when they drill it.

I booked one once on a Friday evening I think it was for a Sunday repair and got a phonecall early the next morning to say they had a technician in the area did I want it done sooner.

Another related note just seen on Auto Windscreens they have chip checker app to see if can repair a chip or not.

I managed to get a chip sorted but was only 3rd party insurance. I think I just bunged that lad £20, I reckon I wasn't the only one either. He probably made a killing that day from backhanders!

Aye indeed it's certainly better than a new windscreen!

Autoglass repair, Autoglass replace, "something" in your hair, "something" in your face... did anyone else read this in Viz a while back?

I was suspicious of Gavin coming over to fill my Mrs crack with his special resin, especially as she doesn't have a car! lol :D Nah Autoglass have been fantastic for us as well...where we live the roads get gravel fillings so stone chips are frequent.

obviously "something" is a substitute.

I had mine done with Admiral insurance a few months back... got it booked in and a couple of days later the company due to do it went bust. Bloody typical. However, Admiral then rang me (which surprised me) booked me in for a date closer than the original job, and there's no excess on chip repairs with them (£70 for replacement), so I was pretty happy with that.

Wasn't so happy when the 12pm appointment was missed thoroughly, and the bloke turned up at 3pm and went "yeah, can't do anything now mate, it's raining so I can't replace your windscreen". Apart from the fact that it wasn't raining when he was due to turn up, what kind of idiot company does it take to do the sum "outdoor job" + "live in Britain" + "can't work in rain" and not come up with the answer "provide rain protection to blokes in vans"?!

Was also less than impressed a month later when my shiny new windscreen got a chip in it right in my line of sight :(
