Datalite Cable Mapping Tool
Does anyone know where to get this?
Its hard to describe since its not on the internet anywhere but its on page G16 of the Cable Management Supplies yellow book if anyone has it (they say its been discontinued)
Basically its a series of light up modules that can be put in all the patch panel ports and you can then take the tool and put it in the unlabelled points you have and it will light up the port it goes back to
Seems far easier and quicker (especially for our vastly mislabelled network) than the usual cable testers and remote modules
If anyone knows where to get a similar product for a sensible price (it was £40) please let me know. It seems so useful I cant believe its been discontinued
Re: Datalite Cable Mapping Tool
Dunno but my NT750 from:
http://www.openxtra.co.uk/products/c...per/index.html
comes with a set of plugs that are all numbered and the tester will tell you what one you are connected too.
It's a bit more than £40 though.

Re: Datalite Cable Mapping Tool
@plexer: The NT950 is better :P (I haven't got the wiremap ends but the regular remote does the job... along with the TT100 tone tool). Check out http://test-um.com/validator/nt950.asp and http://test-um.com/product_detail.asp?itemno=TT100
Oliis can sort you out if you are interested (speak to Mandy).
Re: Datalite Cable Mapping Tool
haha we've got the exact same tester as that plexer, except its rebranded as Black Box
It does the job I suppose but its just not as simple, and of course you're limited to 8 modules so you cant fill up the whole patch panel. The datalite one came with 25 little modules and you could buy more
Re: Datalite Cable Mapping Tool
@Ric_: Yes Yes I know it is but I didn't have the funding for it.
Looking into getting the wireless test tool this year and also a wi-spy spectrum analyser.
True but as you've got to have someone at the remote end to work out which one is lit up then they could just as easily move the 8 module to the next 8 ports on the patch panel etc...
