Have a look at SSL Certificates SSL Wildcard SSL Free Certificates SSL Server Certificate 256 bits - they do free certs for education.
I've used them twice now... does the job!
Ditto to the above - used ipsCA on several servers now. Not sure wether or not the issue of their Root Certificate has been resolved with Firefox yet, but it is free for education.
Pete
using the one above as well
free .. firefox still not sorted though :(
we use Buy GeoTrust® and VeriSign® SSL Certificates At Cheaper Prices. RapidSSL® From £14.60 - Free Trial Available (UK) for RapidSSL. Works on FF and IE, although you have to make sure you import the cross root cert and intermediate cert from their help pages for it to work in firefox
Because of the need for intermediate certificates, the free service wouldn't work with my SSLVPN. But it's nice of them to offer.
Try startssl, free and works with all major browsers.
Go Daddy do mine I use at work I've got a couple of single SSLs and a multi-named one for Exchange and its been great :)
+1 for Start SSL - fantastic set of tools, free and it's built in certificates work on all major phones and browsers.
cacert is another, but the root ca is not installed within major browsers so the end user has to install the cert before it will work properly. I would personaly go with Start SSL...
I'll second ipsCA, very good and FREE!
It will be down to what you actually need to with your certificate as the free/very low costs certificate may not fit your requirement.
ipsCA does have issues with firefox and you are only able to secure a domainin, it can't be used for example as a client authentication certificate.
What are you looking to secure?
We have three servers in mind :-- Email (Exchange), Vle (Moodle) and a Access24 Solution (based on VMware)
StartSSL looks the favourite, thanks for the contributions
