I do it every day, the nearest office with a kettle is only round the corner though and I make sure to time it so it's not during movement breaks. If any kids get to close or I see someone running towards me just shout at them, they usually see you then!
Bit of defensive driving... I mean walking, a well practised bellow and careful use of elbows and I can normally manage the 20 foot between the staff room and our office. It is still an interesting prospect though!
That can be really dangerous, particularly if you drink black coffee which is very hot. In our school we have to carry cups in lidded containers which isnt too onerous and makes perfect sense.

I only drink hot drinks in my room or someone elses.
It's one of those things that no one thinks about but if you ended up giving a kid third degree burns on their face because you tripped or whatever you'd be in p45'ville before you know it.

Like most things in a school, extreme care is required. Personally, I avoid lesson change, and make sure drink is not direct from kettle. If you think about it, holding the cup near you, and using the other arm to "defend" means its more likely to spill on you not them!
The lided container idea is also a very good one.
Staff room is next to the office so rarely have a need to carry it anywhere, but if I do I just avoid breaks, that would be asking for trouble, as kids seem to take delight in running around like lunatics and getting in the way wherever possible
After an unfortunate scolding incident involving a student running into a member of staff with a cup of hot black coffee, everyone was advised that hot drinks should be carried in containers with lids. It lasted around 6-12 moths, back to normal now :rolleyes:
I have my good 'ol edugeek Mug, and a kettle in my office, so all I need to do is take the kettle to the water source and back.
Or nip to Subway about 50 yards from the school gate!
