In car Audio How to
Just a question - i am okay with changing the head units over, installing speakers etc as i have done this on my old car.
But this time around i have a slightly posher car (citroen C4 coupe - beats an old clapped out fiesta!) - it has all the steering wheel controls which i would like to carry on using when i change the cd player over.
1. is it possible to keep using the steering wheel controls and
2. how do i do it!
any help appreciated!!
You need to check if your new headunit supports the steering wheel controls, you sometimes need to get an adaptor cable for the radio to get it to control it but they do vary according to make of car and headunit chosen.
In my experience a Citroen WILL need an adapter. I got one for my Blaupunkt, it wasn't desperately expensive (else I wouldn't have bothered), but I can't remember what it did cost.
If you just happen to have a head unit of the same manufacture as the factory fit, you might be lucky and not need the adapter.
Connects 2 do a range for this. You buy the car-specific controller, and then the radio specific part. Expensive, but works well. Example here CTSCT003 CAN-Bus steering control adaptor Steering Control Adaptor - Car Audio D
Connects2 CAN-Bus JVC Adaptor Steering Control Adaptor - Car Audio Direct
C4 ---> JVC
I will take a Look at Car Audio Direct - will also check ebay see if i can get it cheaper. I purchased my old head unit from halfruads last year when i put it in my old car but only because it was £60 cheaper then i could find anywhere else!!
i found that useless ended up buying a specific adapter rather than a 2 parter neither me nore ice place i tried could get one of those to work (for the record standard car ford focus and a standard jvc unit)
