I hardly think the Times Educational Supplement forum is classed as 'little'. Still, they do have some very bizzare opinions.

@DB:
lmao how true is that - Eclipse library system for example.Quote:
'Your technician\network manager know everything there is to know about the piece of software you just handed them 15 minutes ago, even though it is you that is going to teach it'
- Oh yes, I know how to import the pupils from sims just like that.
- Oh, i forgot to mention that of course i know the answer to every eclipse related question you ask me too ;)
That was the head sometime last week.Quote:
'Installing a new piece of software to every PC on the network will only take a few minutes'
Its on a trial and we need it to be tested by the pupils and staff. But of course i wont mention "have you installed it virtually every time I see you" and that there is no installer - its a welsh home grown program that is just a load of macromedia files on multiple CD's [4!!!] and it only takes up ~1.4GB of space btw ;)
[managed to create a installer for it !G rar file on the server and a little install script - job done [except for manually installing it on each pc with the script but no problem now lol]
definately not a 5 min job lol Glad i made the installer - with a quiet system - it installs in 5 mins from start to finish :D much quicker than manually swapping cd's and copying to HD etc
I only had the CD's for 3 days while doing a ton of other stuff lmao [they had to go back as they had "copy protection on them" - i certainly didnt notice it lol just normal cd-r's lmao
excuse the slight /rant - meaning no offense to the head by this btw - its only in gest :) just the lack of understanding of how true your comment really is DB lol
Nath.
@tarq: eclipse is easy! - RTFM!!! ;)
Also... if it was just a bunch of files, copy them to a share and perhaps knock up a HTML interface? One shortcut then needed on a re-diorected start menu. :D
thats the method I use - but mostly I put it on a read only share with the CD files hidden too.Quote:

can anyone findout which schools these "teachers" come from. I'd love the techies to know. What about a thread "teachers with egos larger than their knowledge"!!!!!!
IMHO the only people who think teachers know about IT, is teachers.
This is obviously about the last school I worked at, and not the current school, where I actually feel valued, and that they rely on my knowledge!
Have you got enough disk space for that one??Quote:

lol good idea DB :)
And the "bunch of files" earlier is 1.5GB - thats some serious file accessing when a whole class will be using it!! That would cripple the DC [yes, i have no app server lol]
My installer script does the job and like you say, a shortcut to each "CD" in their start menu - job done :D 5min's is a good time i thought for a "copy & extract" of that size [1GB compressed file]
