I've used the Google Maps Navigator on my G1 on a few trips now and it is amazing. Using the satellite imagery layer is very useful - it's a much better user experience and more interesting than the boring old cartoony type graphics on traditional sat navs. I also particularly like the way it automatically zooms in at junctions to show you a close-up so you know what to expect - very handy at confusing roundabouts, etc.
The only niggle is that the maximum volume setting on the G1 still isn't quite loud enough and the female voice is a bit robotic, and places a strange emphasis on certain words; "streeeet", for example!
Just updating my HTC Tattoo now :)
got bored of waiting on HTC to update the hero from 1.5
Now rooted with 2.1, sense ui and all the goodies that go with it, inc google nav :)
So glad I ordered my Desire today!
Hijacking an old thread :D
Got my HTC Desire yesterday :D
Anyone used compass mode when in Google street view yet? If not try it :D That is one cool app :D When you have it on, hold the phone up and turn 360 degrees :D
Haven't tried that one yet - but get Google Sky Map - worth the price of admission alone :)
Only just moved to a smart phone - like a kid with the newest best toy ever :D Done lots of research and reading so knew a lot of what it can do but seeing it is another dimension :D
edit* - Just installed Skymap :D *Dribbles*
We were sat in the garden last night and I installed skymap. It's amazing, will be playing with it a lot I think.
