For Those Of Us Who Remember It From The First Time Around: Solving Rubic's Cube
I was able to solve it after a little practise. I found out the other day that I had forgotten how it was done. Rather than go through the pain of learning how to solve it without assistance there is now a download:

Step 1: peel of stickers
Step 2: Stick 'em back on in the right order

OR

Step 1: break the cube into individual blocks
Step 2: rebuild the cube with blocks in the correct order

:D

My daughter (31) has just learned. Me? I don't have enough time to even think about it. Not even the stickers off and back on.http://www.edugeek.net/images/icons/icon12.png

Back in 1980 I'm afraid I was one of the spotty nerdy types who got interviewed by Nationwide because I could do it in less than a couple of minutes (the Rubik's cube that is - don't know what you were thinking....)

And if I remember correctly, weren't there over 40,000 permutations for the corner pieces alone? That's all I can remember really. Not the exact permutations, just that there were that many...

I was an avid watcher of Nationwide. I probably saw your appearance/performance.

Who interviewed you?

Bob Wellings?
Sue Lawley?

Other names I can't recall right now?

There were six of us from my town - the reporter was none other than Michael Barrett. We went to a studio in Birmingham (Pebble Mill?) and linked up live with London I believe. I can't remember who was at Birmingham although Tom Coyne springs to mind. As spotty teenagers we were more interested in the rather attractive lady who shepherded us around

If anyone knows of the archive/film let me know as I've never seen it. I've Googled in the past but with no joy.

For those who still find Rubic's cube somewhat frustrating here is an alternate approach to putting it out of your misery:

There's got to be an app for that, some sort of augmented reality thing where you show the cube to the phone camera and it tells you your next move
