Something like last.fm or spotify (eg legal and streamable)?
I can see why the above are blocked but the music department are understandably frustrated that there is nowhere for students to go to listen to music for inspiration. Classical music is covered with subscriptions to sites, but for popular music there doesnt seem to be much outside Amazons measly samples.
Anyone know of somewhere thats possibly less well known?
Free Music, Listen to Music Free - although I would hazard a guess this will be blocked as well.
If students have access to iTunes on their computers you could set up a shared playlist on the network where the teachers can add the 'suitable' music required for their //creative// learning by importing CDs.
grooveshark is quite good, just don't let the have spotify, as the license specifies each user must have there own account, plus the school cannot make them accounts as they cannot let them have passwords, also it does not allow playing out through public play back

Good idea! The music department all run on macs so iTunes is no problem. The obvious question I suppose is what about the legality (not from ripping the cd's, but from sharing it) or are there exceptions if they are being used for education?Quote:

One thing to remember is spotify etc may all be banned because they are only for personal use and are not allowed to be used in this way sadly. We have been looking for some options ourselves to get around the personal use limitation.
