Out of those two, though, Panasonic have always seemed higher quality to me. Sony in general have not had a good few years recently, it seems...

Panasonic announced last week 10 new models which will have FreeSat HD and Freeview HD Tuners.
This means that the current / older models will start to be discounted and good offers to be had! :)

The ethernet socket on FreeSat Panasonics is for the upcoming BBC iPlayer and ITV Player (Humax & Sony already enabled).
Additionally, the later model Panasonic TVs also have VieraCast to enable viewing of YouTube etc.

Its pretty good but want to wait a few years until it karks it so I can get a better one.
Ive used direct TVs myself, seemed a bit iffy at first brought it via Direct TVs, billed by Direct Laptops and Invoiced by Direct God Knows What. The TV came very quick and I have had no issues so for the cheap price it was worth it :D
Our previous 'big' TV was a 28" Widescreen Sony CRT, but having switched 2 years ago to Panasonic 42" Plasma (having done a lot of research) I have been very happy with my choice. We have a 19" Panasonic LCD TV in our kitchen too. Several family members have also bought Panasonic having seen ours.
