Anyone heard about a new grant recently made available??
One of our supply teachers has just arrived in my office, demanding to know why we have some old machines and new machines in certain rooms, when there is a grant available, of up to £10k to schools.
It's called something like 'Computers for Students' (not the Tesco one!), and he mentioned something about it being on the Dfes website, although I can't find anything.
Does anyone have any info on this grant??
Re: Anyone heard about a new grant recently made available??
@indiegirl: Sounds like the crackpot new idea about giving PCs to pupils. AFAIK nothing has been finalised and the computers will be for home use.
Big can of worms waiting to happen. Tell the teacher to stop being nosey and go spend their own budget!

That's the problem in this place, people can't keep their noses out...
I shall forward that link (ta, Sysman) and let the powers-that-be argue it out...

£10000? Wow! That'll refit, what, one room? If you're lucky?
Like Ric, I'd tell the supply teacher to mind their own business.
Re: Anyone heard about a new grant recently made available??
I did a little digging. I've found out that the money was made avalible from September this year as Grant 125 and Grant 210. The latter one being the interesting one.

Why is it indiegirl that when teachers want something they always get it but when we need something there is always excuses. When we want to use the BECTA norm for putting across our case they then turn around and quote"we only use it as a guide" then they use it "proformo" to beat us with. Anyway you do right to tell the nosey s*d to b***er off it has nothing to do with them.
Sorry indiegirl just having a very bad time of it at the moment (seriously thinking of packing in and going to B&Q stacking shelves)

Im with you on the B&Q stacking - and I am only 26!!
(Not that im implying you are old!)
@indiegirl
Tell the teacher its not your problem if they want grants to be sorted they should go to SLT ask why it has not been made.
As usuall the middle teachers take it out on technicians / network staff because they aint got the guts to go to senior management.
Re: Anyone heard about a new grant recently made available??
Perhaps this should be moved to the FFS forum?!
(I really have opened a can o' worms...)
Re: Anyone heard about a new grant recently made available??
The Computer for Pupils scheme is meant to a method of helping break down the digital divide by providing assistance for families that would struggle to get a computer on their own. Part of the importance is that of ensuring connectivity and the whole project is linked in with ensuring equity of access for students (helping those who can't, rather than won't, help themselves).
Check with County before deciding what to do with the money. They may have already decided for you.

Y'know Governent schemes make me laugh.
Maybe these poor families could afford a computer if they didn't charge them so much to drink/smoke/drive.
